1.    This insulation system has failed.  The fiberglass batting has gotten wet and can no longer offer any protection from the cold air.  The warm air under the home has melted the snow and even thawed the grass! The owners of this home could not understand why their heat bill is so high.

2.    Because this skirting was placed directly on the ground, frost heave has pushed the skirting up, putting strain on the siding of the home.  This creates cracks that allow water to enter the home.  This is the start of "Dry Rot".  Within three years this home will have structure damage.  The owner thought he was saving money, but it will cost more to repair the damage than it would have cost to install a correct insulation and skirting system.

3.    There is so much up-ward pressure on the siding that it has actually bent the siding, creating pockets for snow to collect.  This snow melts and enters the home creating more problems with structure integrity.  This usually happens because the skirting was installed to the ground and the tie downs were installed incorrectly, they are too tight and hold the frame of the home down while the skirting pushed the outside of the home up because the skirting system can not adjust for frost heave.

It was 10 below when these pictures were taken. This system has failed. Snow should be against the skirting, not 3 or more inches away.

Frost heave has pushed the skirting up allowing moisture to enter and expensive heat to escape.

Fixed skirting systems that touch the ground destroy the home. What part of this picture doesn't make that clear?
