This window is over 30 years old. It works just fine. Light goes right through it. So does heat. Replacing the aluminum window with a vinyl thermal pane window will reduce energy use enough to pay for the window in just months.

Remove any
garbage around the window. In this case it’s four screws holding a fake shutter
on each side of the window.
Remove the
screws from the aluminum widow frame.
Remove
the window and clean off the old putty and dirt.

Put new putty tape around the window hole. Press firmly so the tape sticks to the surface.
After
replacing the putty tape around the window, pull off the protective paper to
expose the adhesive.
Now you are
ready to insert the new window.
Screw
the window in place after making sure it is level. Use shims if necessary.

Now that it is all screwed in, just replace the shutters and enjoy the savings!
There is no reason you can't replace your own widows. This job only took 3 cups of coffee.
